Happy New Year

Dear Woophy members thank your for another year of beautiful pictures uploaded. Also thank you al for your input and help in improving the site. As many of you know Woophy is a project (might even say hobby) we do besides our real job of web designer and architect. In February we introduced Woophy 2.0 with lots of new functions and in October we introduced even more new things like the possibility to create a photo blog.

For 2009 we have plans to further improve the blog function turning it in some kind of travel dairy, we want to improve the map and make it possible to even further pinpoint the pictures you took on the map and we want to publish some photo books using Blurb (sorry z. for not getting back to you). Also we have the idea to replace the terminated members council for a small group of Woophy ambassadors and moderators.

Anyway we wish you a great 2009!

Wim Denijs Member of the Month December

I used the expression ’In der Beschränkung zeigt sich erst der Meister’ by Goethe earlier to describe a member of the month but in the case of Wim Denijs this expression is certainly true. What I like about Wim Denijs is that his more than 200 portraits of people form around the world create a true window to the world. It looks that by limiting himself to portraits his message becomes even stronger than when he would have used more divers viewpoints.

Or as Wim writes himself ‘Through photography I want to tell everyone that no matter what no one is alone and no one is forgotten in this world. We are all human being belonging to nature no matter what political decision was made, nature still is beautiful and it will be.’

Thank you Wim for your beautiful portfolio and helping us spreading the Woophy spirit. A Woophy T-shirt will be send to Vlaanderen.

Geert Geenen member of the month January

Geert Geenen is in many ways the opposite of Wim Denijs our December member of the month. If we would use an expression for Geert Geenen it would be ‘homo universalis’ often used to describe Leonardo Da Vinci’s many qualities. Whether it’s landscapes, architecture, small observations on daily life Geert can do almost anything (well except for portraits like Wim Denijs).

What I also like about Geert’s portfolio is that he uploads a picture almost everyday thus creating a real ‘time document’. Like many other great photographers we have neglected Geert for too long and it is a real pity that we only have 12 months in a year to honour only 12 members of the month.

An extra ray of sunlight

Woophy has many awards and honors but in this last newsletter of the year we want to reward two people with an extra ray of sunlight (no icon or T-shirt involved). These people are Paulo Calafate and Dieuwertje. Paulo receives this extra ray of sunlight for putting the discussion in the right perspective in yet another rating forum topic. Thanks Paulo. Dieuwertje receives her extra ray of sunlight for here Homage forum topic. Thank you Dieuwertje we were very touched by this topic.

And to all the people who also deserve an extra ray of sunlight but are not mentioned here please be aware that all your contributions and efforts are noted.

The Woophy Spirit

Of course we try to describe in words what Woophy is about and we have the feeling that many people understand what Woophy is about. Richt is the other member for whom I used the expression ’In der Beschränkung zeigt sich erst der Meister’. So good to see that you can create such a good portfolio by focussing on one subject. Although each of the images has the same subject it is always a pleasure looking at them.
