Some friends asked me to photograph there animals after i photographed them a lot. They have two cats (who don't come outside) and two dogs. Photographing is the easiest in the outside, because there is enough light and stuff. It must be possible to get some nice shots. But the things is that the photographs need to be the simular in some way. The 4 pictures will be printed on canvas and will be a 4-serie. Does anyone have some tips?

I find animals are ficcle, especially cats. The whole family should be involved, to ease nervousness & keep them in the camera/fence line. Cats nap alot durring the day, so I suggest the photo shoot done in mid-afternoon, interrupting said nap. The lighting should be good, as well.

i think its kind of weird that they want them to be similar, do you mean similar in pose? If you do then all i would recommends is set it up like a portraits, have the owners around to keep the pets calm and get their attention and shoot their portraits.

A good example of what im talking about is Jill Greenbergs series on dogs or her seperate series on monkeys/chimps

Due to the unknown behavior of pets, I feel u should just snap as many as possible and pick out the best of the bunch! I took this shot inside in quite poor lighting and had to tidy up alot in PS. I think a good pet portrait should show the animal relaxed and as the only point of focus in the frame!

Try against a neutral background such as a wall or on a blanket!

Regards

Jonny
