A few months ago I took this pic in Buda (Budapest Hungary) :

Afterwards I put it in a black & white version :

And to conclude there was the option 'old paper' by Photoshop elements :

Which one do you prefer? Suggestions, remarks, ideas, dislikes, ... just let me know.

Thanks for yours reactions and grtz, Rik.

Hello Rik

I like very much the first one! The colors are very soft and the scenery is very exotic and beautiful. Now I´m watching the others and it´s difficult to choose...well...the first one.

See you

Malice

Hi., Rik. Like Malice, I think all three are great but - like her - I prefer the original, coloured, version.

I'm not sure which one I like best. Probably the "Old paper" version. The B/W version is too bright with not enough contrast for me. A darker version may be perfect!
The colored version looks beautiful, but I'm a sucker for city life pictures. This picture has a tourist stand, but not too many tourists. (Not your "fault".) I wish there where a lot more tourists. The "Old paper" version do not need tourists and even if it is a little bright to me, it looks very good. Very nice effect/colour!

I prefer the old paper one!

It makes the photo loose the distractions of modern living of the color one (bright orange bin, and the tacky tourist stalls) etc.

The black and white one is not dark enough as Ridar said.

first off all , I am a B&W fan, but that doesn't mean I don't like coloured photo's.

The first one ....a bit flat of colours, could use a bit more saturation, IMO of course!, and a warm filter....

the B&W..........more contrast, if you are using photoshop cs 3 try it with tri- or quad- toning, you can make it a warm B&W photo

the old paper...IMO also a bit flat, again with tri- or quad- toning the effect of old ( sepia ) could be enhanced a bit more.....

coloured

sepia, old paper

B&W

Hi Rik,
it is always a pleasure to discuss different versions of the same picture.

Well, my rule is: "if in a picture the colour does not give essential informations, then probably you should convert it in b&w". This is the case, the colour is not very important in your picture, and that is a good reason in itself to pass to b&w.

The old paper version? I have noticed that many liked it very much. The fact is - in your picture this filter works well beacause the effect gives interest to all the up - right part of the pic, where the sky is rather blank and would be a bit uninteresting without the texture provided by the filter. So let's go for "old paper" when we have lare white areas in the sky!

I think that the best would be the second one, but needs some more contrast, like fotogravenswaay showed before.

Having seen the scene live I prefer the original. However it does indeed lack some contrast and saturation that like most times you miss less in a B&W version

Undoubtely number 1. The soft colours enhance the topic. IMO the 2 other ones are artificial and bleak without any character or added value.

Hi everyone,

It is clear that the most off you chooses or for the coloured one or for the old paper one. Even soo in the map with photos here on Woophy both off them gets the best reactions.

Ruud (fotogravenswaay) you put a lot off effort in your reaction. I can see the difference between yours and mine pics. Especially in the B&W version it is clear that my pic missed more contrast like the most off you already wrote. I'll do better next time.

Thanks everybody for your reactions, choices and advices too. See yah later on Woophy

Grtz, Rik.

Hi Rik,

I like the B&W best, and yes: it is a little pale, but that really seems to suit the scene.

Hi Rik, I will add my two cents if it is not to late, I do like the black and white but of course adjusting the contrast alittle would help, or even try the 4 color version and turn off various channels of CMY to see how it looks.
